Jong Vocaal Groningen was founded in 1996 by Nanny ter Wiel and has been under the inspiring leadership of Merlijn Wackers since February 2016. The choir has a diverse repertoire, ranging from Renaissance composers like Sweelinck to contemporary composers like Schronen and Gjeilo.

In the past, the choir has collaborated with, among others, the percussion ensemble Constantijn Huygens and the Drents Symphony Orchestra. With the participation of the Apollo ensemble, the choir performed Bach's cantatas BWV 131 ("Aus der Tiefen") and BWV 150 ("Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich") in the Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden in 2016 and 2018.

Jong Vocaal Groningen regularly participates in national and international competitions. In 2006, 2012, and 2016, the ensemble won first prize at the choir festival on Schiermonnikoog, and in 2017, the choir successfully participated in the Harmonie Festival in Lindenholzhausen, Germany. In 2018, the choir came in fourth at the Dutch Choir Festival (NKF), earning the title "NKF Top Choir."

In 2018 and 2019, Jong Vocaal Groningen performed Rossini's Petite messe solennelle. In 2022, the choir collaborated with Wendy Viel, a theater maker at Meeuw Jonge Theatermakers, to bring the opera Dido & Aeneas to life, giving this ancient story of love and envy, passion and duty a modern interpretation in beautiful imagery with a link to the present.

Jong Vocaal Groningen is a choir with a rich history. The choir is made up of enthusiastic singers of all ages and levels who work together with great pleasure to perform beautiful music. The choir invites everyone to attend a rehearsal and discover what Jong Vocaal Groningen has to offer!
