Jong Vocaal Groningen was founded in 1996 by Nanny ter Wiel and has been under the inspiring leadership of Merlijn Wackers since February 2016. The choir has a diverse repertoire, ranging from Renaissance composers like Sweelinck to contemporary composers like Schronen and Gjeilo.

In the past, the choir has collaborated with, among others, the percussion ensemble Constantijn Huygens and the Drents Symphony Orchestra. With the participation of the Apollo ensemble, the choir performed Bach's cantatas BWV 131 ("Aus der Tiefen") and BWV 150 ("Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich") in the Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden in 2016 and 2018.

In 2018, the choir came in fourth at the Dutch Choir Festival (NKF), earning the title "NKF Top Choir."
